Owner Spotlight : Cindy van Seters

I am Cindy van Seters, proud owner of Novatex Serigraphics Inc.

I look forward to sharing my story. I hope that you will enjoy getting to know me better.

I spent the first twelve years of my life in small town Saskatchewan. After moving to and living in Regina for three years, I finally landed in Saskatoon where I have lived ever since. I was an English Major in University. When circumstances interrupted my graduation goals, I started helping my husband, Henry, at the company where he was a smaller shareholder. Eventually, I became a full time employee there and that’s how I worked my way into the printing industry.

It’s been twenty five years since the inception of Novatex Serigraphics Inc. My husband Henry and I became majority shareholders in the company in 1996. Initially, we included t-shirt printing as a part of our services but due to space constraints, we decided to drop this and devote 100% of our efforts to “flat printing”.  We're now the only major industrial screen printers who own and operate in Saskatoon.  We have also heeded many warnings about screen printing being a dying industry by adding two digital printers to our business.

Customer satisfaction is our top priority and the most gratifying part of my job is seeing customers happy with our work. As the general manager, my responsibilities include creating quotes, writing up orders, scheduling orders and purchasing supplies. I also handle simpler artwork for the screen printing and digital printing. My work hours are 8:30am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday, but I occasionally work longer hours during busy periods.

The most important decision that I face daily is handling the production schedule to meet customers' requirements. In addition, I also spend a great deal of time sourcing materials and accurately estimating cots so that our customers get the best product for the best price.

Before joining Novatex Graphics, Henry worked for a business owned and operated by Gordon Nurnberger who has had a huge impact on our leadership style and strongly influenced our professional development. He emphasized quality work and assembled a remarkable team of employees who believed in the same. Gordon showed me how valuable employees are to the success of a company and I try to bring these values to work with me everyday.

The most satisfying moments in my personal life have been my marriage and partnership with Henry. Although we work together, we also value our after-work time together. Away from the office, I enjoy reading, listening to music, cooking and watching movies. I adopted one of our cats from Street Cat Rescue in Saskatoon and continue to contribute to their organization. I greatly admire the work they do in the local community. Through the business, we also donate to worthy causes with banners, signage and other print materials.
